Tourism - Outdoors and Recreation
The barn quilt movement is gaining momentum throughout Cowley County and the Kansas Flint Hills. The Kansas Flint Hills Quilt trail, begun only a few years ago, now boasts over 165 quilts throughout the 22 county region. Locally, the Cowley County Barn Quilt trail expanded from one barn quilt at the beginning of 2014 to now over 30 large barn quilts, and numerous 2x2 quilt blocks up around the county. The Cowley County Tourism Alliance has been working to expand the barn quilt trail throughout the county, that is a part of the larger Flint Hills Quilt Trail. The alliance has been holding a series of Barn Quilt classes to raise awareness of this movement in the area. For information on upcoming classes, contact the Winfield Convention and Tourism office at 620-221-2421. CCTA is currently looking for barn owners interested in having a large quilt block (4x4, 6x6, or 8x8) on their barn. If you are interested in the quilt block movement, please contact the Cowley First office at 620-221-9951. A complete list of the Cowley County Barn quilt trail can be found on the
