Power of the Purse accepting grant applications

Cowley County (KS), August 3, 2020:  The Power of the Purse - a women’s giving circle established with Legacy Regional Community Foundation - is currently accepting grant applications from area nonprofit organizations that align with their mission “to better the lives of women and children in Cowley County.”  The deadline for submission is September 30, 2020.
Power of the Purse (POP) has given $230,008 in grants and scholarships since the giving circle was established in 2007.  POP operates by combining membership contributions to form a fund from which grants are awarded.  In 2019 grant funding was provided to Angels in the Attic, Circles of Cowley County, Cowley Cares Coalition, Arkansas City Early Bird Lions/People For People, Arkansas City Soroptimist Sock Project Plus, REACH, Family Life Services, and Wichita Family Crisis Center serving Cowley County.
Gayle McPherson, director of Eagle Nest, Inc. provides oversight for the Cowley Cares Coalition in Winfield, says, “The help that POP provides to us is invaluable. The families in our programs are learning skills that are changing their lives and their futures with personal support and hard work. POP has been a major supporter of our efforts.”
Soroptimist of Arkansas City president Blanche Schmidt agrees. “We share a mission with POP to help women and girls in our community. Their financial gifts enable our volunteers to do more projects with more people and we appreciate their efforts.”
“The Power of the Purse demonstrates the impact that is possible from combined resources,” say Winfield CPA Patty Neises, POP’s president. “Every POP member makes at least a $400 annual contribution ($200 if under the age of 40). Multiply that by our 50 person membership and we can make a difference in Cowley County.”
