Cowley County Residents Sought for Community Health Survey: $10 in
Chamber Checks Awarded to Each Household
Community partners have teamed up to launch HealthCounts
in Cowley County, a health and wellness survey to gain valuable insights
into the health and well-being of Cowley County residents. The survey is
available in English and Spanish and can be completed online now at www.risecowley.org/healthcounts.
"We believe that a healthy community is a thriving
community," says survey coordinator Sarah Johnson at William Newton
Hospital. "This survey is an important step in understanding the current
health landscape in Cowley County. By taking time to participate, residents can
play a vital role in shaping a healthier future for themselves, their families,
and neighbors."
Residents are asked what would be most helpful regarding
resources in Cowley County including:
- Healthcare
& Public Health
- Mental
Health
- Schools
- Early
Education & Child Care
- Work
Sites
- K-State
Research & Extension
- Faith

Survey results will be discussed in a series of eight focus
groups this summer. Residents can indicate on the survey if they wish to
participate. Community leaders will use the information gathered to identify
the top needs to be addressed and develop a health improvement plan.
The anonymous survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. To
help ensure all neighborhoods and communities within the county are
represented, a separate address verification is also completed.
“Our survey is comprehensive and covers topics beyond
healthcare,” says Johnson. “We know there are many things that impact the
health and well-being of a community, like economic status, education, and
access to resources. So, to thank residents for their time, we’re offering an
incentive to each household.”
The first 5,000 households completing the survey will
receive $10 in Chamber Checks to use at participating local businesses. After
completing the verification form, survey completers will be given a voucher
code. For Arkansas City Chamber Checks, the voucher code can be presented at
the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas City Public Library,
City-Cowley County Health Department-Arkansas City Office, or Dexter School
(through May 16). For Winfield Chamber Checks, the code can be presented at Burden
City Hall, City-Cowley County Health Department-Winfield Office, Udall Public
Library, Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce, or Winfield Public Library.
Over $50,000 in grant funds have been awarded to Cowley
County to provide the Chamber Checks incentive.
“That money gets funneled through local businesses back into
our community,” emphasizes Johnson. “We don’t want to leave money on the
table, but beyond that, we want residents to know their voice matters.”
