Psyanky Egg Art Presentation at August Friends Meeting
Gayle McGuirk is particular
about her eggs. She prefers them
farm-fresh and light-to-medium brown, and gets especially excited when she can
find duck or guinea eggs. Rather than eating them, though, McGuirk carefully
selects the perfect eggs to turn into works of art. McGuirk will share the process and history of
Psyanky Eggs at the upcoming Friends of the Winfield Public Library
meeting. All are welcome to join this
free presentation on Monday, August 8th at 7:00pm. Friends meetings are open to the public and
held in the WPL Community Room.
Winfield resident McGuirk has
been creating Psyanky egg art for four years, after taking a class at Carriage
House Gallery in Newton. The process involves
creating designs with hot wax and dipping the eggs in dye to create layers of
color and patterns. Once she is happy
with the egg’s design, McGuirk gently cleans off the excess wax and applies a
clear varnish.
At the August 8th
Friends meeting, McGuirk will have examples of her Psyanky Eggs on
display. She also has eggs for sale at
Walnut Valley Books, 228 W 19th in Winfield.
