TED Talk Lunch Series at WPL
On Thursday, May 12, Winfield Public Library will
host the second in their TED Talk Lunch Series. This free event is open to all. Community members are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to the 12:00pm
program where coffee and dessert will be provided. Registration is now open through the events
calendar at wpl.org or by calling 620-221-4470.
May’s talk is titled “The cure for burnout” by
sisters Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski. They have co-written a New York Times bestseller Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking
the Stress Cycle. WPL’s TED Talk
lunch series will continue through the spring and summer, featuring TED Talks
on a variety of topics.
Ruth Bumgarner, WPL Adult Services Librarian,
says that the TED Talk series’ first event in April was a success. “We were pleased both with the turnout and
with the discussion inspired by the TED Talk chosen that month.” She says the focus of this month’s talk is
quite different, but that is part of the intent of the series. “TED Talks really inspire you to think about
and discuss new ideas in new ways. Burnout, and mental health in general, is such an important topic for us
to be addressing right now. This could
turn into a very powerful conversation.”
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Other May events at WPL honoring the spirit of
mental health awareness include the presentation “Self-Care isn’t Selfish” by
Four County Mental Health on Monday, May 9th and “Mindful Doodles,”
a neurographic art workshop, on Thursday, May 19th at 7:00pm. WPL also offers a number of experiences that
are proven to help reduce levels of stress and anxiety all year round. Stop in to explore our options for coloring,
board games, ebooks and crafting. You
can also browse our books, work on our community puzzle, read a magazine, get
on the computer, and more.
