Check Out First Chapter Friday at Winfield
Public Library
On Friday, May 6th, Winfield
Public Library will host “First Chapter Friday” on the library’s back
patio. Adult readers of all interests
are invited to attend this casual event, designed to introduce readers to a
variety of books that meet WPL’s May Reading Challenge.
“Our monthly reading challenges have been a
great way for readers to try new authors and genres of books, and our book
clubs are fantastic for getting readers together to discuss books,” says Ruth
Bumgarner, Adult Services Librarian. “First
Chapter Fridays blend the two with an opportunity to explore books, get
recommendations, and listen to the first chapter of a book (or two) that meets
the monthly challenge.”
The challenge topic for May is a Sci-Fi book,
and Bumgarner says she looks forward to hearing recommendations from the
community at the event. “Sci-Fi is such
a huge and varied genre. We’ll have a
selection of books from the library’s collection available, but the best part
of gathering a group of readers is to hear from each other and discover new
authors and styles.”
Copies of The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa, WPL’s May selection for its Bookn’
with Friends Book Club, will also be available for check out (or just for
flipping through the first chapter).
