Voices from the Past Guided Cemetery Tour

The Cowley County Historical Society Museum is excited to present “Voices from the Past Cemetery Tour—Socially Distanced COVID Style”. It will be presented on Sunday, April 25, in front of the mausoleum at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. This tour was originally scheduled for October 25, and is rescheduled due to inclement weather. There will be performances at 1:00 p.m. and at 3:00 p.m. The guided walking tour will look a bit different this year. Tour guides will bring our costumed historic reenactors to you from “distant places” while you sit “socially distanced” from each other in your own lawn chairs and wear a mask.

Five interesting Winfield citizens will be brought to life by our talented reenactors. Additional fascinating stories of Winfield citizens and families will be shared along the way. Did you know that someone from Winfield became an Ace in a Day during WWII? Do you know what that means? Did you know that a Winfield resident was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame? Would you like to know how a Winfield woman found a way to help the disadvantaged during the Depression? Or perhaps you would like to know about a famous child actor with a family connection to Winfield.

If this piques your interest, join us. Wear your mask, bring your lawn chair, sit socially distanced from others, and enjoy the performance. You are sure to learn a bit more about Winfield.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at Graves Drug in Winfield beginning on April 5. They may also be purchased at the Cowley County Historical Museum, 1011 Mansfield. The museum will be open for ticket sales on Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11,April 17-18, and April 24, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. They may also be purchased on-line at cchsm.com.  Tickets must be purchased for a specific performance time. Tickets purchased for the October 25 tour will be honored, so only a limited number of tickets will be available for each performance.  NO reservations will be accepted.

If you purchased a ticket or tickets for the October 25 tour, please call the museum (620-221-4811), or email cchsm@kans.com to confirm that you will be using those tickets. (We hope you kept those tickets in a safe place.) Let us know how many tickets you had purchased and the performance time.   If you purchased a ticket for the 5:00 performance, we will be glad to change your ticket to one of the other performance times. We need this information so your place will be reserved. For additional information call 620-221-4811.
