Marquee Organizing 2nd Annual Virtual Talent Show

Marquee Performing Arts Center is organizing an online talent show again in March. Called Marquee Mirror: A Virtual Talent Show for Cowley County, the online competition will feature videos and photos of entries, and will allow viewers to vote for their favorite entries in visual and performing arts. Area businesses have contributed cash & prizes for the competition, which will feature categories for adults and youth (18 and below).

The competition’s web page goes live March 1, and entries will be due by 11:59pm on Friday, March 18. Voting will then take place throughout the next week, and close at 11:59pm on Friday, March 31. Winners will be announced on April 1 at 8:00pm. While there is no entry fee, voters will be asked to contribute $5 a vote, with proceeds going to support the Marquee. Complete rules, entry forms, and list of sponsors may be found at the Marquee website, at marqueepac.org (follow the link) or at wvfest.com/marquee-virtual-talent-show/.

Visual arts, which may include painting, sculpture, photography, as well as crafts like cross stitch and quilting, will be represented primarily by photos submitted via an online form. Performing arts, such as instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and acting, will be captured via uploaded videos. Videos can be uploaded to YouTube, and the URL can then be shared to enter in that category.

Marquee Board President Allyson Moon: “The Marquee has organized live talent shows in the past, and they have generally been very popular. Last year we did this online, because it was impossible to organize a gathering in person. We had quite a few participants, and over 1000 votes were cast. We thought that this was a way we could reach out to the community, and folks could get involved in something that showcases the talent and resources of our community at a time when getting together to watch a talent show is still very difficult.”

More than $750 has been pledged as cash and gift cards for the competition. The full listing of sponsors can be found on the Marquee Mirror web page, and on posters displayed around town.

The mission of the Marquee Performing Arts Center is to create a dynamic cultural hub in the heart of downtown Winfield for social, artistic, educational, and business gatherings by restoring and transforming the historic Winfield Fox Theater into a state-of-the-art facility that connects and serves the people of Winfield and South-Central Kansas.
