Marquee Announces Summer Film Series: Marquee’s Green Screen

The Marquee Performing Arts Center will kick off a summer film series, “Marquee’s Green Screen,” Saturday June 19, 7:00 pm, with a screening of the acclaimed environmental film Kiss the Ground. Narrated by Woody Harrelson and directed by critically acclaimed directors Josh Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell, Kiss the Ground unveils a game changer: We can completely and rapidly stabilize our planet’s climate, restore lost ecosystems, and create abundant food supplies. To learn how, come watch the film.

Scenes from five continents, including many locations in North America (even Kansas), combined with visuals from NASA and NOAA, and stunning animation, help share a critical message. As an urgent call to action in addressing the planetary crisis, Kiss the Ground illustrates an accessible, fairly simple solution to humanity’s greatest challenge.

Marquee’s Green Screen summer 2021 screenings will occur in the lobby, so space is limited. Reserve your spot by RSVPing on our Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/946986672761415

Ann Fell, curator of the pilot series and Marquee supporter, described the development of the idea. “We have celebrated Earth Day for over 50 years on one day, April 22. But our climate crisis, and the multitude of related issues from mass extinctions, to pollution, scarcity of fresh water, and growing piles of trash and garbage continues year-round. In recognition of the urgency of our call to action, the Marquee PAC’s board is excited to extend the efforts to care for our home planet into the summer.”

The three-month pilot series will offer a film on the Saturday closest to the 22nd day of the summer months.

In support of the film series, Winfield Public Library will make companion books available for checkout and discussion. The June selection, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver, is available for checkout now at the front desk. A discussion of the Kingsolver family’s adventures, recommendations, and recipes, will be held at Island Park’s Rotary Pavilion June 30, 7:00 pm.

The film planned for the Marquee’s Green Screen series on July 24 is The Story of Plastic.  August 21 will see Green Fire. All who want to know more and connect with concerned neighbors are invited. There is no admission charge.
