Legacy Foundation to celebrate silver anniversary with event

Cowley County, KS:  Make plans now to join Legacy Foundation in celebration of their 25th “Silver” Anniversary with a come-and-go event at Wilson Park Rotunda (Arkansas City) on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  The program beginning at 2:30 p.m. includes honoring 2020 Spirit of Humanity Karen Zeller and the presentation of $50,000 in grants. Everyone is invited to attend.

Legacy, A Regional Community Foundation (LEGACY) is a 501(c)3 non-profit philanthropic organization incorporated in September 1996 by volunteers. Articles of Incorporation were filed with the State of Kansas on September 25, 1996. In LEGACY’s first year of operation Founder contributions of $2,750 established a permanent endowment for charitable purposes. Additionally, three pass-through grants were received. The local school district was awarded a grant for a computer technology upgrade and two grants supported local community events to improve the quality of life in our area.  In 1999, Pamela Moore was named the first Executive Director of LEGACY. Moore worked with many area groups to address community. Moore retired in June 2016 after Yazmin Wood was engaged as the new Executive Director.

In 2020, the Foundation award nearly $438,000 in grants to benefit the region, in addition to growing Foundation assets to over $8.69 million.

“The task force that undertook the planning of this event has had their work cut out for them,” stated Yazmin Wood, Chief Executive Officer of Legacy, “Though we cannot control the challenges of this on-going health crisis and the various perceptions that come into play, we can choose for Legacy to make an ethical, health conscious, and prudent decision by holding a physically-distanced outdoor event.  We plan to commemorate this milestone with minimal food, plenty of reflection and hope for the future, and great giving!”  Mask wearing is encouraged.
