Marquee to Host
Benefit Concert on September 14
Marquee Performing Arts Center has announced that it will host a benefit concert on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, 7:30pm, featuring Rachel Baiman & George Jackson as well as Old Sound. Both bands will be playing at the 49th Walnut Valley Festival
as well. The concert is free, but donations are appreciated. The concert had
been announced, but due to COVID the Marquee decided to take the concert out of
the theater and instead have the bands play under the marquee at street level.
Fans are welcome to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the show from in front of the
Marquee at 1007 Main Street. The concert is made possible by funding from the
Convention and Tourism Committee of the Winfield Chamber of Commerce, as well
as by Walnut Valley Association.
Rachel Baiman and George Jackson are a multi-instrumentalist old time and Americana duo from Nashville, Tennessee. Baiman’s June 2017 album Shame was featured on NPR’s “Songs We Love” and was nominated for Americana Album of the Year in the Independent Music Awards. New Zealand native George Jackson spent years on the Australian festival circuit, and since moving to Nashville has worked with bands including the Missy Raines Trio, Front Country, and Peter Rowan.
Old Sound is a trio based in Kansas City but with roots in Winfield, who craft traditional and original acoustic folk music. Led by Grady Keller's imaginative storytelling, the trio is strengthened by the exploratory bluegrass flat-picking style of Chad Brothers and the playful doghouse groove of Greg Herrenbruck on upright bass, both of whom also take turns leading the group vocally. Brothers and Herrenbruck grew up in Winfield, and all three have made appearances on campground stages at festival. Old Sound’s initial album “Rain Follows the Plow” was joined by “Deluge,” released in 2021.

To see performers of this caliber, at once concert, is going to be a real treat. And we really appreciate the Chamber and the City of Winfield for working with us to make an outside streetside concert possible.”

of downtown Winfield for social, artistic, educational, and business gatherings
by restoring and transforming the historic Winfield Fox Theater into a
state-of-the-art facility that connects and serves the people of Winfield and
South-Central Kansas.
