In late 2019 Cowley First staff worked with the local secondary and post-secondary schools on the Perkins Community Need Planning assessment. Out of that discussion was brainstorming on how to get students thinking about their careers and exploration opportunities available within the community, which came down to work experiences.
And more recently, two of the highest ranked recommendations with interest from our workforce analysis meeting earlier this month still centered on work experiences for students.

We have encouraged work ethic to inspire students, led industry tours and held the Career Expo in 2018 & 2019 (which will be back for 2022!). Now, coming out of COVID, we want to get back on planning how we can build on and support work experiences for students. To do this, we need to build a database that can be used to connect businesses with students that are seeking a form of experience.
