SC Theatre Department to Present ‘Bright Star’
Winfield, Kan., April 13, 2021 — The Southwestern College theatre
department will present the musical “Bright Star,” on Friday and Saturday,
April 16 and 17, at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m., in the
Richardson Performing Arts Center on the campus of Southwestern College. Social
distancing will be observed.
There will be pre-show entertainment one hour prior to the production
featuring performances by The Bate Family, Southwestern College students and
more.
Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve
Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s “Bright Star” tells a sweeping tale of
love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the
1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just
home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost.
Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand
her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.
“Bright Star” director Joshua Robinson says that he hopes to bring the
community together after such a tough year.
“In the wake of the pandemic and divisions across the country, we are
thrilled to present ‘Bright Star’ as a means of trying to bring the community
back together, much in the way the show tells a story of a community coming
back together,” Robinson says.
Tickets for the performance are $12 for adults, $6 for students, an $10
for seniors. There is no admission charge for SC students and employees. For
tickets or more information, call (620) 229-6272, 221-7720, or email boxoffice@sckans.edu.
