Elks provide grant to Eagle Nest Inc.
Arkansas City/Winfield, KS: The Winfield Elks Charitable Fund of Legacy Regional
Community Foundation awarded a $2,350 grant to Eagle Nest Inc. This grant
will underwrite programming to help women and children. The Winfield Elks
Charitable Fund provides grants to Winfield (KS) area charitable projects and
programming that helps children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking
projects that address unmet need, and/or honoring the service and sacrifice of our
veterans.
The Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks
(B.P.O.E.) invested in the Winfield community by establishing the field of
interest endowment fund with Legacy Foundation. This occurred when
granting permission for Winfield Lodge No. 732 and El Dorado, Kansas, Lodge No.
1407 to merge due to declining membership. Winfield Elks, with leadership
from Ed Laing and Nona Reep, worked to retain the monies generated by the sale
of their lodge building for good works to be accomplished in Winfield. By endowing the gift with Legacy Foundation their work
will continue forever.
Eagle Nest, Inc. has comprehensive and
long-term programming in place that that focuses on personal growth and
building self-esteem. Additional information designed to help clients
reach financial independence, thereby removing them from the cycle of chronic
public assistance, is also provided. Though most of the program
participants are women living below the poverty level that are also heads of
their households, Eagle Nest, Inc. knows the work impacts the entire
family. With the mission “to help women become successful in life and
reach their full potential” Eagle Nest, Inc. works every day to shape the
vision that “all women succeed in becoming productive members of their
community.” The store located at 112 East 9th Street,
Winfield, helps to subsidize the programming aspects of the organization, but
often serves as a training ground, too. Learn more regarding Eagle Nest,
Inc., the store and the programming by visiting www.eaglenestinc.org.
