Small Business Grants Available
Kerri Falletti, Director

Cowley County has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Kansas
Department of Commerce to fund grants to businesses that have been impacted by the COVID-19
pandemic. This is a grant opportunity for those that experienced or are facing impending income losses
or other stresses due to COVID-19 through reimbursement of qualified expenses.
Cowley First, Cowley County Economic Development, will be accepting applications for business grants
through October 2nd. The award to the County is $132,000. Grants will be limited to either $4,000 for
businesses with 5 or fewer employees or $12,000 for businesses with 6-50 employees. Due to the
limited amount awarded and considering the demand of applications, limits could be reduced to provide
broader benefit.
The grant has two primary qualification guidelines; job retention and associated wage and the federal

CARES Act. The purpose of the grant is to assist in retaining jobs for employees that meet low-to-
moderate income guidelines for Cowley County. Expenses requested for reimbursement must meet the
requirements outlined in the CARES Act and includes costs such as payroll, utilities, rent, and inventory.
Businesses that received EIDL, PPP or other federal program funds are eligible to apply, but all
applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure there are no duplications in use of funds.
