Cowley County, KS: Area students seeking local scholarships through Legacy Regional Community Foundation should submit applications by March 1.  College scholarship applications for Arkansas City, Burden, Dexter, Sedan, South Haven, Udall and Winfield high school seniors, as well as area college students, are now available online through Legacy’s new GOapply portal.  The scholarship amounts range from $250 to over a $1,000; some are for students pursuing specific areas of study while many are open to any student pursuing a higher education.  Legacy Regional Community Foundation awarded over $134,000 in scholarships for the 2023-2024 school year.  Legacy has scholarships for students in Cowley, Chautauqua, Butler and Sumner counties.

The application portal can be accessed through a link found on the Legacy website at www.legacyregionalfoundation.org.  It is a two phase application process.  In the first phase applicants are asked basic personal information, and more detailed school and community activity information to determine eligibility for certain scholarships.  Applicants will also need email addresses for their references which is a required field.  The second phase of the application is an email listing the scholarships the applicant can apply for.  The student can choose as many or as few as they wish.  The deadline for submitting the application is March 1, 2024.

All the scholarships are funded through endowments held by Legacy Regional Community Foundation. “Scholarships are a popular way for our donors to honor the life of a loved one or to give back from the fullness of their lives,” says Yazmin Wood, Chief Executive Office. “We encourage every student to look into these opportunities. These donors know the value and the cost of good education and want to make it more possible for our graduates.”
