Legacy Regional Community Foundation dedicates
new sign

County, KS, October 6, 2023: Legacy Regional Community
Foundation recently celebrated the culmination of a project years in the
making. Dedicated Legacy volunteers took on the project of creating new
signage and landscaping for the downtown Winfield offices. Legacy
Champions with community members gathered September 28 for a red ribbon cutting
and sign dedication led by the Winfield and Arkansas City Area Chambers of
Commerce.
Materials and labor for
the new sign addition were gifted by Madison and Devon Metzinger/Daniels Ready
Mix (and their crew!), Alex and Laura Gottlob/Gottlob Lawn & Landscaping
(and their crew!), Dwayne Smith/CDS Machinery & Powder Coating, Dexter FFA,
and Zach Stoy.
Legacy,
A Regional Community Foundation (LEGACY) is a 501(c)3 non-profit philanthropic
organization incorporated in September 1996 by volunteers on September 25,
1996. In LEGACY’s first year of operation Founder contributions of $2,750
established a permanent endowment for charitable purposes. In 1999,
Pamela Moore was named the first Executive Director of LEGACY working with many
area groups to address community issues. LEGACY’s leadership impacted
cooperative efforts such as spearheading the entrepreneurship work group that
became Vision 20/20, work with the health and mental health initiatives and in
sustainability and strategy for area non-profits. The signature program
developed by LEGACY, “Tiny Teeth” focusing on children’s oral health, spread nationwide.
Additionally, Legacy Foundation was instrumental in the start-up of the
Community Health Center located in Winfield and Angels in the Attic located in
Arkansas City. Moore retired in June 2016 after Yazmin Wood was engaged as the
new Executive Director. During the global pandemic Legacy Foundation served as
an important resource, especially by providing extensive support, assistance
and project management to the community through area nonprofit organizations,
including access to CARES funding distributed by Cowley County
government.
Most
recently Legacy Foundation spearheaded the “Closer Look at Cowley Kids” Data
Walk and is continuing the work through the ACT (Addressing Challenges
Together) Initiative. Legacy is also serving as a Grant Coordinator
for RISE Cowley's Kansas Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathways Grant.
