Winfield Public Library Bookn’ with Friends to Discuss Things Fall Apart

The Winfield Public Library invites community members to join the Bookn’ with Friends book talk on Monday, November 22nd at 6:30pm. This month’s talk features Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe which has a 3.7 rating on goodreads and is 224 pages long. Participants must register for this discussion by visiting wpl.org or calling 620-221-4470. Copies of Things Fall Apart are currently available at WPL’s circulation desk.

Things Fall Apart is the story of a proud but powerless man witnessing the ruin of his people. Okonkwo is the greatest wrestler and warrior alive in his Igbo village. But when he accidentally kills a clansman, things begin to fall apart. Okonkwo returns from exile to find missionaries and colonial governors have arrived in the village. With his world thrown radically off-balance, he can only hurtle towards tragedy.

More than two million copies of Things Fall Apart have been sold in the United States since it was first published here in 1959. Worldwide, there are eight million copies in print in fifty languages.

Things Fall Apart was selected for November’s 2021 Reading Challenge of a Book that “Everyone” has Read Except for You. The Reading Challenge encourages everyone, no matter what age, to read any book that fits into that month’s topic. No sign-up is needed, and you are welcome to participate as you wish – take on one, two, or all twelve challenges. December’s Challenge topic is a Book Recommended by a Librarian. New Reading Challenge 2022 topics will be announced in January.

Bookn’ with Friends book talks are hosted by the Friends of the Winfield Public Library. This group supports library activities such as the Summer Reading Program and the Discovery exhibits. For those who believe in literacy programs, love the library and wish to support strong community, membership in The Friends is a great way to show support.
