The Winfield Public Library Announces Community Art Project “The Traveling Sketchbook”

Calling all artists, cartoonists, collage novices, mixed media specialists, or doodlers - lend your talents to the “Traveling Sketchbook,” a new initiative for teens and adults from the Winfield Public Library. Check out one of our sketchbooks and create a piece of art, whether it be silly, serious, or somewhere in between. When the sketchbook is full of creations, WPL will share the book with the community.

Each sketchbook comes with tools such as inspiration items, watercolor pencils, a brush, and pens to help inspire and create. Sketchbooks can be checked out for one week.  This initiative is possible by a Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries grant, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL).

Our first Traveling Sketchbook theme is “poetry” to celebrate April as National Poetry Month.  Doodlers/artists can use one of their own poems, one of their favorites, or one included in the sketchbook kit for inspiration. As sketchbooks fill or time passes, we will unveil new themes and new traveling sketchbooks will make their way around town. Participate often and get creative! Artists can sign or not sign their projects - it’s up to them, but all sketches/inclusions must be G-rated so the entire community can enjoy.

For more information, visit wpl.org.  Sketchbooks will be available starting Monday, April 5th.
