The Roll & Read will feature select children’s books being read at points along the way, offering fun and educational opportunities for families, including physical fitness, stroller decorating with Winfield High School Art Club, Music and Theatre with PAT graduate Debbie Badley and WHS Drama/Thespian students, and the smoothie bike with Sarah LaGrone of Cowley County Extension. There will also be a bubble station with graduated PAT families, a book giveaway for all, and a drawing for a Radio Flyer Red Wagon filled with picture books!
Parents and children can walk, bike, skate, push a stroller or pull a wagon around Cherry Street Park pathway, as well as enjoy select children’s books at points along the way, read by local first responders, local athletes with the JINX and VIKING, and Mrs. Jo from the Winfield Public Library. This free event is open to families with children of all ages.
Parents As Teachers is a voluntary program that pairs trained professionals with families in their home. It provides personal support for families from pregnancy through the earliest year of life, including:
*Individualized bimonthly or monthly home visits to empower parent interaction with their children in a way that facilitates healthy development and learning
*Group connections that build social connections
*Screenings to help identify possible developmental and other health problems so that children can be linked to appropriate service or therapies
Research shows that Parents as Teachers improves the education, health and well-being of families who participate in the program.
