"Why I Love Winfield" Social Media/Newsprint Campaign

This campaign will coordinate statements from local individuals for use on social media/newsprint that describe why they love Winfield. This harkens back to a similar string of newsprint that occurred in 1920 in the Courier.

Example :

Why I Live in Winfield, Sep 1920
When I go to other towns and look them over, as I frequently do, I often see things about them which I know to be good and which I think might be good things to have in Winfield. I try to look at the other towns without any prejudice, and I say to myself, "Get this partiality out of your mind and look at this town fairly." But when I come back to Winfield and look it over, the impression of the other places is lost and I cannot think of hem as being in any way equal to Winfield as an all around place in which to live.

Other towns do have their good qualities and the good fortunes, but  something seems to be lacking. I size up their people who are equal to our best, but they do not seem to have as many who come up to that quality. Winfield seems to have...  More >>

E-Waste Recycling Event

The Green Team of Southwestern College and Grace United Methodist Church will again collaborate with the City of Winfield for an e-waste recycling event Tuesday, March 7, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Arkansas City/Winfield Recycling Center located at 7th Avenue and D Street in Strother Field. The Green Team will be accepting donations to help offset the cost of transporting electronics to the recycler.

Businesses and individuals may bring items to the event. GON Recycling will collect the items and process them for recycling. GON Recycling guarantees 100 percent security on all hard drives and customer information. They are e-Stewards, R2 and ISO 14001 certified.

Rick Cowlishaw, professor of biology hopes that old electronics don’t just get thrown away over the holidays.

“Don’t throw away your old laptop, printer, cellphone, or other electronic devices this holiday season,” Cowlishaw says. “Hold on to those items for the March 7 recycling event.  We want to avoid old electronics, which are being replaced by new Christmas toys, heading to the landfill.”

GON Recycling accepts the following electronic items: computers, laptops, servers, network equipment, LCD Monitors, printers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, POS scanners and equipment, stereo equipment, small household appliances such as...  More >>
